A Midsummer Night's Dream
                                          -Summer 2005

In the summer of 2005 Tumbleweed Theatre thought it was time to bring Shakespeare in the Park to Brooks Alberta.

The tale is set around the wedding of King Theseus, who plans to wed his younger bride, the Amazon Hippolyta. It is in the planning of the wedding that young lovers plot their escape from the kingdom, while a rag-tag group of tradesmen plan a play in celebration of the King's wedding. A monkey wrench of mistaken identity is thrown into the plans as a quarrel between the Fairy King and Queen spills over into the real world, affecting the young lovers and the rehearsal of the play in the forest.

The cast for A Midsummer Night's Dream numbered 22, the largest a Tumbleweed production had ever assembled. The cast was a complete combination of experience and youth, familiar actors to Tumbleweed Theatre, and new faces.

In terms of scope, the production also marked another first for the Brooks-based theatre group - theatre in the park. The decision to perform in the park was born out of the idea of making Shakespeare in the Park a yearly occurrence in Brooks.
